You
can only become a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) if you've graduated
from a Yoga Alliance registered Yoga school. Sharing Yoga Teacher
Training Program is a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance
You don't need to have a desire to teach Yoga in order to learn
about Yoga. It is an interesting philosophy and a healthy, peaceful
way of living.
-
Our 2010 program is a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training, meeting
all the requirements with Yoga Alliance
-
It
is 9 months long
-
We
meet 1 weekend per month, Fri 6-9, Sat and Sun 9-5:30 (see dates
below)
-
There
is a small self study component to the program (required for
certification)
-
Even
if you don't want to teach Yoga - the program is a great way
to deepen your knowledge of Yoga techniques, philosophy and
lifestyle
-
This
is not a program where you learn wicked hard Yoga postures -
you learn about Yoga and how to "teach Yoga"
-
We
will teach you how to open your own Yoga business or studio
and market it
-
If
you are concerned about not being flexible, strong enough, etc.
do not worry - Yoga is not about flexibility, it's about the
breath and the mind
-
You
can take some of the sessions this year and then finish your
certification next year - do it at your own pace
-
We
offer a supportive, SAFE, comfortable environment
Our program can be completed in the 9 months if you attend all
9 weekend sessions. Students are welcome to attend any or all
of the sessions. Some students are interested in earning their
certifications and becoming RYT's, Registered Yoga Teachers
with Yoga Alliance. Other folks are looking to deepen their
practice, increase knowledge of Yoga philosophy, etc. If you
are not in a hurry, you may take your time to complete your
certification if you wish, and do not need to complete it in
the 9 months.
Postures
We draw upon Yoga postures from the ashtanga vinyasa system along
with traditional Hatha Yoga postures and sequences and
learn to create our own unique classes and flows. As teachers,
we learn to combine this with some easier, gentle postures and
modify our offerings so everyone may benefit from Yoga. Learn
to share your Yoga with students of different abilities and levels.
Learn to teach Yoga safely to a wide variety of students.
Breathing
You will learn specific breathing techniques (known as pranayama),
how to practice them and share them with others.
Mantras
You will learn ancient sanskrit chants and mantras, what they
mean and how to share these chants with others.
Meditation
Learn about different meditation techniques, how to practice and
how to share this knowledge with others.
Students
need to complete the minimum # of hours of self study outside
of the classroom/workshop setting for each level of training.
However, an average of only 90 minutes per week is devoted to
any personal combination that you create, (i.e. reading assignments
with written or oral presentations, group discussions, evaluation
of Yoga classes and workshops outside of our TT, and teaching
Yoga classes)
The 2010 Teacher Training Classes are held once every
month, on the 3rd weekend of the month. Friday evening from
6-9 from and Sat/Sun from 9AM-530PM. They consist of training
in the techniques and practice of Asana, Pranayama, Meditation
and Chanting, Teaching Methodology and Philosophy and Anatomy
and Physiology. Teaching Methodology and Philosophy includes
demonstration, observation, assisting/correcting, individual/group
instruction, and discussion on various teaching styles. We will
discuss what qualities make a competent yoga teacher, ethical
considerations around yoga, and facilitate guidance to individual
student learning needs. Topics of study may include Sanskrit
scripture, ancient teachings and philosophy. There is a practicum
portion of the program where students practice teach within
the context of the program, using the skills gained

Our teacher training program is led by David Breen, E-RYT 500,
and Laurie Farmer, RYT, with help from Belle Boyes, RYT 500
David is trained at the 500 hour level through the Himalayan Institute.
He has been teaching Yoga in the Concord, NH area since 2002. He
is known for his inspiring Yoga classes, his sense of humor, and
his dedication to the ancient teachings of Yoga. As a graduate of
the Bija Ananda Teacher Training Program, he received his RYT designation
from the Yoga Alliance in 2004. In 2005 he completed the Ashtanga
Yoga Primary Series Teacher Training with David Swenson and in 2006
he earned his E-RYT designation, one of only 3 in NH at the time.
He started the Sharing Yoga Teacher Training program and after returning
from India in 2007 he opened Sharing Yoga Community Yoga School
in Concord, NH. In 2010 he received the designation of E-RYT 500,
the highest level of training recognized by Yoga Alliance.
He is a member of the Himalayan Institute Teachers Association and
travels back often to his spiritual home to further his education
and recharge his spiritual batteries. He has combined sanskrit chanting
with his lifelong hobby of music, playing guitar and harmonium while
singing and chanting ancient sanskrit mantras and verses, and presenting
Kirtan and concerts on the east coast.

Laurie is graced with the love and light of her Guru Manorama ji,
whom she offers deep reverence and gratitude to. While studying
the Path of Luminous Shabda, a path that combines Sanskrit, Meditation
and Yoga philosophy, Laurie continues to journey inward and encourages
others to also find the sacred sound of our true inner silence.
Laurie is inspired by and grateful to her many teachers. She has
completed the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series Teacher Training with
David Swenson and Shelley Washington, the Bija Ananda Teacher Training
Program (RYT 200 certification) with Tom Sherman, and teacher trainings
with Asa Dustin. She has practiced and studied a variety of styles
of yoga and continues to learn from her teachers and students. She
is fortunate and honored to be able to practice karma yoga through
her work in Hospice and is reminded daily of the beauty of life
and the present moment through the interactions she has with those
who are dying and their family members. Laurie has traveled to India
and Nepal to explore sacred and spiritual sites and deepen her understanding
of non-duality. It is her daily practice to live yoga "off the mat"
and it is her hope that she encourages students to do this as well.
“Practice, practice, and all is coming!” -Sri K. Pattabhi Jois
